The bill after solar is never zero — the fixed charge stays as long as the connection does, and the figure above includes it. The 25-year total holds today's MPERC tariff flat and applies 0.5% panel degradation a year. Tariffs have risen every year; if they keep rising, the real figure is higher than this one.
Subsidies explained
Don't leave ₹78,000 on the table.
PM Surya Ghar pays ₹30,000 for each of your first two kilowatts and ₹18,000 for the third. After that it pays nothing — a 6 kW system and a 3 kW system receive exactly the same rupee amount. Sizing above 3 kW is often the right call; it is never a subsidy decision.

₹78,000 is a hard ceiling per household, and a 6 kW system reaches it no faster than a 3 kW one. The subsidy follows the panels’ rated capacity, not the inverter — adding batteries, trackers or a small wind hybrid does not add a rupee to it.
How the subsidy actually reaches your bank account
- 01
Register on the National Portal
You register at pmsuryaghar.gov.in with your electricity consumer number. The portal issues an application ID and an e-token — the instrument the subsidy is eventually paid against.

Choose a vendor and agree the price
There is no DISCOM tendering under this scheme; you negotiate directly at mutually decided rates. Design, components and commercial terms are settled between you and the vendor you pick from the portal.

Installation, then the portal upload
The system goes up, with safety checks and a handover briefing. System details and every required document — including geo-tagged photographs — are uploaded, and the application moves to your DISCOM.

DISCOM inspection and meter
The DISCOM physically inspects the plant, signs the metering agreement and installs the net meter. No subsidy is processed before that physical verification.

Redeem the e-token
The e-token is activated for the amount due on your actual installed capacity. Redeem it and the money is released to the bank account registered on the portal — the guidelines allow 15 days from DISCOM approval. If you financed the system, it clears the loan account first.

How a project actually runs.

Six phases, in this order, with the parts nobody advertises left in — the metering agreement, the DCR serial numbers, the inspector’s checklist. Two of the six are paced by your distribution company rather than by us, and we have marked which.

Setup
Notarised agreement, registration on the PM Surya Ghar portal where a subsidy applies, vendor selection confirmed on the portal, and the scope and capacity fixed in writing.

Procurement
Bill of materials finalised from the survey, stock checked, panels, inverter and mounting structure dispatched, and receipt confirmed on site before anyone is mobilised.

Installation
Mounting structure, panels, wiring and inverter, earthing, then a quality checklist. Daily progress reports and photographs, so you can see the roof without standing on it.

Metering and grid
Net-metering application filed with your DISCOM — or smart-meter activation where RDSS applies — followed by insulation, earth-continuity and I-V curve testing, and a commissioning test run.

The DISCOM or state authority inspects the plant and issues the commissioning certificate, and the panel and inverter serial numbers go up to the portal as DCR evidence.

Handover and service
Warranty registration, the full document set in your hands, and the service schedule generated automatically. This is where the project ends and the maintenance relationship starts.
The subsidy runs on its own track. Central Financial Assistance is typically released 2–8 weeks after commissioning and holds up none of the phases above — your system generates from the day it is switched on, whether or not the money has landed.
